How getting hired works

How it works

From opening to hired, in three steps.

Organizations

  1. Post your opening

Title, sport, level, city, pay — live in minutes at the top of the jobs feed.

  2. Review applicants

Every application arrives with a full profile: experience, certifications, and availability.

  3. Message & hire

Chat on-platform, shortlist your favorites, hire, and mark the role filled.

Coaches & refs

  1. Build your profile

Sports, levels, certifications, experience, and rate — plus the availability employers filter by.

  2. Apply in one tap

Browse openings near you, or get flagged when a job matches your alerts.

  3. Get hired

Track your status live — Submitted, Viewed, Shortlisted, Hired — and reply when organizations reach out.

Why RosterHire

Practical tools for how sports hiring actually works.

Seasonal. Local. Often last-minute. RosterHire is built for the real rhythm of sports work — not generic job boards.

Emergency Fill

Save game day in seconds.

A ref cancels the morning of the tournament. Tap Emergency Fill — sport, position, date, pay — and your need goes live flagged Urgent, so nearby officials see it first. Officials with emergency alerts on are flagged the moment it posts.

Emergency Fill was RosterHire's first feature — built after watching real games get canceled for lack of an official.

Availability

Availability that updates itself.

Talent set a status employers can trust: available now, available from a date, or not taking work. Pick a future date and the badge flips to Available automatically when it arrives — nothing to remember.

Employers' default talent search shows available people first, so keeping this current means getting found.

Applicant pipeline

A hiring pipeline, not an inbox.

Applications arrive with full profiles — not bare emails. Organizations move candidates from Submitted to Viewed, Shortlisted, and Hired. Talent see the same status live, so both sides always know where things stand.

Messaging

Messaging that keeps the record straight.

Organizations reach out first — about a role — so talent inboxes stay free of spam, and talent can always reply. Conversations are tied to the listing, stay on-platform, and blocking and reporting are one tap away.

And the rest

Everything a modern marketplace should do.

  • Job alerts

Pick your sports, levels, and city — matching jobs are flagged the moment they're posted, including urgent officiating gigs in cities you travel to.

  • Verified organizations

Organizations can earn a verified badge, so talent know a real school, club, or league is behind the listing.

  • Background-check flags

Listings can carry the posting organization's background-check requirement, so expectations are clear before anyone applies — built with safeguarding in mind.

  • Passwordless sign-in

A fresh 6-digit email code every time you sign in. No password to remember — or to leak.

  • Saved jobs

Bookmark any opening to keep it handy, and track everything you've applied to in one list.

  • Private by design

Profiles are visible to signed-in users only — never publicly scrapeable. No third-party ads, no selling your data.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

More in our Help & Support center.

Is RosterHire free?

Yes — completely free for coaches, referees, and officials. Organizations get one open listing free at a time; RosterHire Pro removes the listing limit.

Who is RosterHire for?

Schools, athletic departments, youth sports organizations, rec departments, clubs, travel and select teams, leagues, colleges, tournament directors, and athletic associations — and the coaches, referees, umpires, and officials they hire, across every sport and level.

What is Emergency Fill?

A fast-track posting for urgent officiating needs. Enter the sport, position, date, and pay, and it goes live in seconds — flagged Urgent so nearby officials see it first. Officials can turn on emergency alerts for the cities they'll travel to.

Do I need an account to browse jobs?

No — anyone can browse jobs. You'll need a free account to view talent profiles, apply, post, or message. That keeps the community's information protected from scraping and spam.

How do organizations contact talent?

Organizations start conversations — usually about a role you applied to, or a profile they found in Talent search. Talent can always reply. This one rule keeps inboxes free of spam on both sides.

Does RosterHire run background checks?

Not currently. The background-check flag on a listing reflects the posting organization's own requirement — organizations own their vetting and safeguarding policies, especially for roles working with minors. Built-in checks are on our roadmap.

How is pay handled?

Pay arrangements happen directly between organizations and talent today. In-app payments and payouts are on the roadmap — when they launch, they'll be handled by established payment processors with clear terms shown before you opt in.

Can I be both a coach and an employer?

An account has one role, chosen at sign-up: Coach / Ref or Hiring / Employer. Use separate emails if you genuinely need both sides.
